Fitzroy Sewalong Update

This evening, our sewalong group meets for our second Zoom session. Two weeks ago we gathered to learn a little bit about each other and talk about the pattern that we’re all making together (sewcially distanced, in our own homes). Since then, we’ve been working, each at our own pace, on the Fitzroy Blouse.

Many members of the group—five participants plus Make it Sew owner Accacia— are easing back into garment sewing with this project. Some are making a muslin or toile—a practice garment. We’re sort of split on sleeve options, with sleeves being on the agenda for Zoom session #2.

We’ve been using Liesel & Co’s instructions, without needing to add much. Accacia often advises to use three rows of basting stitches to gather a sleeve cap (instructions generally recommend two rows). In this case, though, at least in the size 12 and 14 samples that Accacia made, the fit is such that the sleeve fits in nicely without much gathering at all.

Hopefully participants will be finishing projects within the next week. We’ll be sharing some finished garment photos, too!
