Reverse Applique workshop
Learn Alabama Chanin style reverse applique techniques with Theresa Reid.
Students will design a stencil, paint on fabric, and practice different stitches to create a sampler. This style of reverse applique is done on jersey (knit) fabric that doesn’t fray. Students will be introduced to a poncho and other projects they can do with this technique such as pillow covers, skirts and shawls.

I have been sewing and working in fiber arts since my youth. My undergraduate and masters degrees are in art education and I’m a retired teacher. I help with the Garment Gals sewing club in Winston-Salem and teach garment classes. The interest in reverse appliqué began when I needed a hand sewing project to work on while recovering from surgery 4 years ago. Now, I try to keep a project on hand at all times.
Registration fee is $85. A materials fee of about $15 will be collected the day of the class. If students want to start on a poncho (or other project) they will need to bring pre-washed fabric which can be purchased ahead of time at Make It Sew with a 10% discount.
