Make it Sew is a fabric and sewing studio located in historic downtown Lexington, Virginia.
How to sign up
We are adding online registration to the website. Until that’s fully functional, look at the class description for registration instructions. It’s always acceptable to sign up in person; additionally, an email address or Google form may be used.
Most classes require a minimum of 3 students. Maximum is usually 5. Rare exceptions are noted in class descriptions.
Payment is required at time of registration to guarantee a spot. Cash, check, credit card and gift certificate are all acceptable forms. Full refunds will be made for any class canceled by Make It Sew.
Students have no significant sewing experience.
Students have basic understanding of a sewing machine and have made at least one project but may not have experience using sewing patterns.
Students have moderate sewing experience. They have made at least a few projects and are generally comfortable working on their own with some instruction. They have probably tried buttons, zippers, binding, or trim.
Students have intermediate sewing experience. They have made some clothing or quilts. They have some comfort with zippers, buttons, and trim, but may want some more practice.
Students have been sewing for a while and know some advanced techniques.
Class fees are refundable or transferable to another class if cancellation is made at least 48 hours before class starts. Cancellations less than 48 hours before start of class will forfeit registration fee.
Make-up classes may be available in extenuating circumstances.
If Make It Sew is open, adult classes will go on as scheduled. Children’s classes follow local school closures. We’ll make every attempt to re-schedule classes that are canceled due to weather.
Students should be dropped off no earlier than 10 minutes before the scheduled start of class and picked up at the culmination of class.
Supply list will be provided to students at registration. Students receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for class.
Basic classes are conducted with the studio’s vintage Singer sewing machines. You may use your own machine for upper level and specialized classes.
Sewing includes some equipment that have potential risks, such as irons, pins, needles, scissors, and, of course, sewing machines. It is expected that students will use care to protect themselves and the equipment and ask for help when they need it.
Food & Drink
Food and drink are allowed, and sometimes provided. Participants will be notified of designated eating and drinking locations within the studio.
