Meet Sven and Nova

We have two friends to introduce you to: Sven and Nova.

Sven “is here to dispel the myth that sloths are lazy. In fact, the reason he is able to get so much done is that he is so well rested, he can bring the best of himself to each task” (from the Heron Hill Stitch Co. Website).

Sven the Diligent Sloth

Nova is a local 9 year old who takes sewing classes at Make It Sew. Nova sewed Sven from a sweet kit we have at the shop—and you can sew your own Sven, too. 

We asked Nova to try out the new kit to get a kid’s perspective. The instructions specify that it’s appropriate for ages 7 and beyond! (Ages 5-6 with adult help). Nova’s mom Jessy helped her some with the project, and Jessy said it was a great mother/daughter activity.

When I asked Nova if she had any trouble with the instructions, she said they were good and for the most part, she was able to follow them. I asked if she thought younger kids would be able to make the kit, and she said that with a grownup’s help, someone younger than her who was interested could probably do it just fine. Nova told me she wished there had been more thread and also more fabric (to make more sloths!!).

And why wouldn’t anyone be interested in stitching up a Diligent Sloth like Sven.
